When the spell failed, Anya became human, but her evil ways didn't stop there, as she teamed up with vampire Willow. Weirdly, though, in the next season, she was part of the Scooby Gang. Her switch to the good side just seemed totally out of character and came out of nowhere. By the time Kali appeared on the show, Anya was a fully established member of the Scooby Gang and had helped save the world a few times. What was even more impressive was that she had started dating Xander, and the two were engaged to be married.
When Kali made her debut, it was surprising to hear that she and Anya were still friends, as Kali was also a vengeance demon who helped abused children by hurting others. Being good means you try and distance yourself from murderers, and Anya had been doing so well up until that point. Although Anya was a main part of Buffy The Vampire Slayer for four seasons, she always felt like a bit of an outsider. Sure, she dated Xander, and during that time, she helped Buffy defeat the monster of the week, but it never really felt like she was there of her own accord.
In Season 6, Anya and Xander were due to be wed but thanks to Xander developing some major pre-wedding nerves, Anya was left at the altar. Although Season 7 of Buffy was its last televised season, some characters got better endings than others. Buffy defeated the First Evil, Faith redeemed herself for her past actions, and Willow became a magic goddess.
Even Spike had a fitting ending. Anya had been an ally of the Scooby Gang for years by this point and she was an integral part of the group. What's more, she remained popular with the fans.
For Anya to get killed in battle and for no one to grieve her properly, it was a disservice to the character. In Season 7, a lot of the main cast had more reduced roles, apart from Buffy herself. The first half of the season went down as normal, featuring a different monster every week.
However, when Giles started bringing the Potential Slayers to Sunnydale, the dynamic changed. Suddenly, every episode was about the Potentials, and so screen time had to be shared between a lot more characters. This affected some characters worse than others, for example, Anya didn't really have much to do during this season and so she felt underused for the majority of episodes. Anya has always been a brilliant character, not in the least because she wasn't afraid to stand up for herself and say what she thought.
She also wasn't too fussed on men, meaning that she didn't feel the need to spend her time doting on one man after another. However, that seemingly all changed when she met and dated Xander. After he left her on the wedding day, Anya took a sabbatical from the Scooby Gang. When she returned to the fold, it wasn't long before she hooked up with Xander again, completely altering her views and stance on men.
Since Anya was an antagonist when she and Buffy first met, they didn't particularly take to each other at first. However, over time, Anya started to help the Scooby Gang more and more. Therefore, it stood to reason that she and Buffy would begin to get along. The act of vengeance against her lover Olaf gained the attention of D'Hoffryn, a demon who offered to elevate Aud to the status of a vengeance demon. For example, a girl wished her husband's head would explode, another wished that her ex would cannibalize himself, another was transformed into a dog, another become attracted by other guys.
In , Anyanka traveled to the Kastka valleys above the Urals to curse an unfaithful shepherd and was caught in the middle of a sorcerer's Ascension to the form of the demon Lohesh. In the 16th century, Anyanka came to know the French sorcerer Cloutier who, despite inventing a spell hated by demons, Tirer la Couverture , she thought he was cute. She met the famous vampire Dracula in who left a positive impression on her by congratulating her on having made a man incredibly fat [11] and was present at the Salem witch trials in Despite their competition, Halfrek secretly admired Anyanka and was impressed when a wish she granted sparked a revolution in St.
Petersburg, Russia in In , Anyanka arrived in Sunnydale, California to punish teenager Xander Harris for cheating on his girlfriend Cordelia Chase with his best friend, Willow Rosenberg.
Taking on the guise of Anya, she enrolled herself at Sunnydale High School and befriended Cordelia Chase in order to trick her into making a wish. Blaming the Slayer Buffy Summers for everything that was wrong in her life, Cordelia wished that Buffy had never come to Sunnydale, which transported her to a grim alternate universe where the Master had risen and both Xander and Willow were vampires.
Unfortunately for Anyanka, the Watcher Rupert Giles discovered what was going on and destroyed her amulet, undoing Cordelia's wish and rendering Anya powerless and mortal. As punishment for her failure, D'Hoffryn refused to restore her powers, so Anya was forced to live out her life as a mortal and powerless human. Determined to get her powers back, Anya managed to trick Willow, who was a witch, into helping her retrieve her amulet from the alternate universe.
Instead, they accidentally pulled out the vampire version of Willow, who proceeded to cause mayhem in Sunnydale. When Anya realized her mistake, she allied herself with the vampire Willow, but they were both captured by Buffy and the Scooby Gang, who forced her to send the vampire Willow back to her own reality.
Anya continued to live her life as a high school student and, despite her abhorrence of all men, she yearned to have a date for the prom. She asked Xander to the dance because she knew he had no other date and he reluctantly accepted for the same reason. However, these plans were put on hold when he told her that the Mayor of Sunnydale, Richard Wilkins , was planning to ascend to an Old One form on graduation day and massacre the town.

Xander refused to abandon his friends, so she left without him. Anya returned to Sunnydale several months later, still infatuated with Xander. Xander invited her to a Halloween party and she decided to wear a bunny suit as her scary costume, revealing her trademark fear of rabbits. Worried that Xander did not really care about her, Anya was moved when he mistakenly believed that she had been killed by Spike and proceeded to beat the vampire up.

Buffy defeated the demonic Burns, but Xander decided to call off the wedding anyway, as the vision Burns had shown him of the future reawakened his old fears at turning out like his parents.

Soon after the new Seed of Wonder was created and magic was returned to earth, a spirit with Anya's memories and appearance started haunting Xander.
When Xander discovered she was real, but not the original Anya herself, he decided to distance from her. It was then revealed that she was D'Hoffryn's creation as a revenge plan against the Scoobies, who he blamed of having "robbing" her from him. Resentful of Xander, she was turned into a corporeal vengeance demon, then followed D'Hoffryn in an attack against the Scoobies. Buffy pointed that D'Hoffryn only viewed both Anyas as possessions: he didn't love Anya any more he did Halfrek, having discarded and killed her just to torture Anya herself, [3] and was actually hurt by her independence.
Then, at mercy of Anya's attack, Xander said he was sorry for what he did to both Anyas; despite not regretting giving up their wedding neither distancing from Anya's copy, he recognized he handed the situations badly, abandoning them when they needed him the most. The move cost her life, as he was able to set her on fire. At her final moments, Anya said D'Hoffryn made her and only him could end her, but in between she made herself real. She told Xander he was a good man and she forgave her, and that the original Anya would forgive him too.

Shortly before battling Glory, Anya believed that a stuffed bunny she found was an omen that they were all going to die. They got them hoppy legs and twitchy little noses. And what's with all the carrots? What do they need such good eyesight for anyway?
Candy canes. It seemed that Anya also had a slight fear of getting old, as it was something she never had to consider as a vengeance demon. Although she has a phobia towards bunnies, she seems to love monkeys. She tried to convince Dawn and Xander to go and see a movie about a monkey who played ice hockey.
